For my 3D project we had to make a 3 dimensional movie poster, by this it meant that the bulk of the poster had to be constructed either as a model or set incorporating various materials into it. The film I was assigned to do was 'Death Rides A Horse'. Being a western film I began my research by examining various existing western film posters before I began designing rough mock ups of my own. After this I began experimenting with materials in various ways to see how I could potentially construct my poster. I settled on having a literal depiction of death riding a theatre style fake horse mainly for the comedic look of it and the juxtaposition of the intimidating name with the funny looking visuals. The figure was formed out of clay with the various set pieces being made from wooden sticks and painted to fit the western aesthetic.
Overall I think my design could've been better mainly due to the roughness of how I attached the figure to the set, the clay surrounding it was bulky and the horse, even though the lack of effort was played for comedy, still looks a bit rough and clearly was rushed to a degree. Additionally the lighting of the set made it rather difficult to see some of the detail, the harsh shadows although they do create some nice contrast ultimately does hide a lot of the set in darkness. However there are some aspects of it which I like mainly how the actual grim reaper figure turned out in the end, with this being my first time experimenting with clay as a medium I was unsure of how it would turn out but thanks to watching tutorials in the end I was able to construct a nice figure. Ultimately however due to the aforementioned issues with lighting and such I think this poster just looks a little rough and shoddy when compared to some other similar designs.
